History

SAP ltd was founded in 1977 and is specialised in information retrieval.

The first ICARO (Interactive Control And Retrieval Of documents) release has been available on the Italian market at the end of 1977, on the IBM S/34 system.

New versions appeared rapidly to fulfil with the relational database model, first for the IBM S/38 and ultimately for IBM AS/400.  From 1988 to 1993, ICARO was distributed in Europe and Middle-East under an IBM product logo (5786-GYC), after passing several tests regarding maturity, reliability and support.

From 1993, ICARO is distributed in Italy by SAP s.a.s. and in the remaining Europe, Middle East and South America by TIS Text Information System.

After the integration with AS/400 Office and with IBM ImagePlus, ICARO was adapted to Internet, to the Microsoft office environment and to most standard Imaging systems ands image viewers

The activity of SAP and of ICARO agents covers:

• The delivery of an operational solution for database definition and operation: ICARO on IBM AS/400;
• Support to analyse information retrieval and document management specific needs, including the fixed price delivery of operational applications;
• Consulting related to optical character recognition, take over of existing databases or applications, database design, interfaces etc.

The agent network in Italy and in Europe, through the SAP and T.I.S. Text Information System S.A. - Fribourg (Switzerland) deliver “same or next business day” assistance to cover all question related to possible use of the application.
