Information management: new technologies
To say that
information is the "corner stone", the foundation of a company
is an understatement.
The evolution of information stored by enterprises has been quite dramatic over the last few decades. Previously customer addresses, orders, supplier details, numerical records and other structured data were deemed to be the most essential types of company information capable of being stored for subsequent retrieval at a later date. Today, company information now includes text and documents derived from reports, contracts, analysis, correspondence, books, articles and bibliographies including the use of pictures, graphics and the concept of compound documents. The growth of this information and the need to be able to browse and retrieve such data has increased with the everyday acceptance of "office automation"

The management of this
unstructured data allowing public agencies or enterprises to make
extensive use of this newly acquired base of knowledge, requires a new
generation of information retrieval systems like ICARO on IBM AS/400,
capable of handling text with its inherent use of pictures and images. |
Full Text Colour and Images
ICARO allows indexation of extremely long full text documents: up to 999 displays per single document. A colour monitor makes it still more attractive. Usage of a personal computer terminal allows the user to display images (graphics, fac-similes, colour or black and white pictures) stored on the AS/ 400 or on another server. |
