Multilingual
ICARO allows many users to
interrogate a data base simultaneously in various languages (English,
German, French, Italian, Arabic etc.) with corresponding help and
documentation.
Universality
Numerous data bases, acceptance
of all keyboard types (even arabic ), free definition of specific data
structure for every database, by logical division of documents into
fixed fields (255) or variable paragraphs with a maximum length of
1,600,000 characters per document.
Security
The AS/400 security officer
defines for every user a special ICARO "profile" which gives
access and/or authority to specific or all data bases, to specific
functions (search, print, copy, modify or create documents), to specific
non-restricted documents, to specific fields or parts of the allowed
documents.
Easy document management
Interactive (Screen documents)
or batch data entry; Dynamic creation and control of vocabulary and of
data structure; pre-loaded tables with data entry elements; on line
update at any time; Indexation control (keywords, stopwords, automatic

Integration in AS/400 environment

AS/400 applications: data transfer to and from AS or Windows OFFICE
(.doc, rtf, html), RPG program generation, calls for other applications
or for external data bases via 5250 emulation, exit to the OS/400
operating system and to the WINDOWS environment ...
Wide retrieval capabilities
The enhanced retrieval system
allows the user to combine with efficient relational operators all types
of words indexed from the full text of every document: terms, numbers
and numeric ranges, with the possibility of right or left hand
truncation, proximity searching, restriction to specific paragraphs,
fields or subfields ("phrases" or "contexts").
At display time, the retrieved terms are highlighted in their
documentary context to provide easy visual verification.
Two or more queries can be combined together and the query stored in a
temporary or permanent file for subsequent reuse.
Numerous ways to use results
The resultant documents can be
displayed (in full text or a short list), printed, copied to disk,
transferred in a fixed file format to a PC or another external system,
or be used for graphic or statistical purposes.
Images and hypertext navigation
During the consultation of a
document special EXIT routines allows the user to display images,
graphics or maps related to the document, to jump directly to a
"related" document (even located in another database) without
any limitations, with a permanent possibility to return to the original
document.
Query extensions and thesaurus
Synonyms, complex
expressions or even elaborate and conditional search strategies can be
associated to any keyword, to retrieve documents containing this keyword
or synonyms, translations, broader or narrower terms, or responding to a
reunion of conditions which appears to be equivalent to the presence of
the original term. |
